Vyacheslav Volodin: Progressive development and rapprochement of positions begins with legislative support of decisions of the heads of state
The 60th session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia was held remotely. According to the press service of the Russian State Duma, parliamentarians of the Union State discussed the issues of model lawmaking.
“When we talk about progressive development and rapprochement of positions, first of all we should start with legislative support of the decisions of the heads of states,” noted Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia and the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
He said that parliamentarians need to efficiently harmonize legislation and develop model laws.
Vyacheslav Volodin stressed the importance of developing near-border cooperation between the two states. He recalled that, in particular, before the pandemic a session of the Parliamentary Assembly was held in Bryansk. Mr Volodin suggested considering other regions to “discuss the implementation of youth programmes, humanitarian projects and near-border cooperation.”
“Issues of near-border cooperation may be a good basis for joint development in the interests of our peoples,” he stressed.
Vladimir Andreichenko, first deputy Chairman of the Union State of Belarus and Russia and Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, made a particular note of Russia’s support amidst Western countries’ attempts to destabilize the situation in Belarus.
“I am confident that an intensive dialogue between the heads of states and governments on deepening strategic partnership and development of the Union State will be an appropriate response to both external and internal opponents of the Union State,” he said.
Participants of the meeting discussed amendments to the decree On the Budget of the Union State for 2020 and preparation of the budget for the next year.
As you may recall, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia is an observer to the CSTO PA.
