Military and Political Situation in CSTO Countries Discussed at the State Duma
Today, on February 7, Moscow is hosting a meeting of the Chairmen of the Committees of the Parliaments of the CSTO Member States, which are responsible for international relations, defence, and security.
The meeting was opened by Leonid Kalashnikov, Chairman of the Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots.
"This is the third time we are meeting at the State Duma. And, it is fair to say, we are working very efficiently," Mr. Kalashnikov noted.
It is planned to discuss six issues during the meeting, including the following: the main trends in the development of the military and political situation around the Republic of Belarus; the parliamentary dimension of the implementation of one of the priorities during Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the CSTO, namely to deepen cooperation with international organizations operating in the security area; countering foreign interference in the internal affairs of states; the results of the work of the inter-factional working group on Russia's biological security, and other issues related to international and regional security.
As you may recall, the first meeting was held on February 9, 2022. The participants discussed the intensification of the activities of US nuclear forces near the borders of the CSTO countries, the terrorist threat on the border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan, and other issues.
