Kazakhstan Held Its Last Joint Session of the Bicameral Parliament

June 30, 2026, marked the final day of the bicameral Parliament of Kazakhstan. 

On this day, the last joint session of the Senate and the Mazhilis took place in Astana. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev took part in the session.

In his speech, the head of state summarized the Parliament’s work over the past 30 years and outlined the tasks for the new period. He noted that tomorrow, July 1, the new Constitution will come into force, and with it, the system of state power will undergo a fundamental reform: the bicameral Parliament will be replaced by the unicameral Kurultai.

As you may recall, the CSTO parliamentarians observed the recent constitutional referendum in Kazakhstan and drew positive conclusions regarding the organization and conduct of the vote.
