CSTO proposed establishing a council to develop measures to prevent biological threats
The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is establishing a biothreat coordination council.
Rashid Nurgaliyev, deputy Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, announced this in an interview with Rossiyskaya gazeta.
According to Nurgaliyev, “the pandemic has strengthened cooperation between CSTO Member States in the area of countering biological threats.
Russia proposed to form a coordination council of authorized bodies of CSTO Member States on issues of biological security, which would report to the Committee of Secretaries of CSTO Security Councils.”
According to the deputy Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, the council is expected to develop joint practical measures to prevent threats to national, regional and international security associated with the impact of dangerous biological factors.
“We should jointly analyse the situation with biothreats, share experience and plan common actions in this field. In addition, the improvement of legal framework of biosecurity cooperation was much needed,” said Mr Nurgaliyev.
