CSTO PA Observers Met With Representatives of the Judicial System at the Supreme Court of the Kyrgyz Republic
On November 28 in Bishkek, on the eve of the parliamentary elections, a meeting took place between the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly observers and Nurgul Bakirova, Chairperson of the Judicial Board for Administrative Cases of the Supreme Court of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Representatives of the Supreme Court and the Administrative Court of Bishkek also attended the meeting.
Snezhanna Imasheva, coordinator of the group of international observers from the CSTO PA, welcomed the representatives of the Kyrgyz judicial system and underlined that the mission of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly operates under the principle of non-interference in the electoral process.
The meeting participants paid special attention to issues of legal protection of citizens' electoral rights, the procedure for considering appeals and complaints related to the election campaign and the role of courts in ensuring the legality and transparency of the elections.
Nurgul Bakirova informed the members of the mission about the existing legal mechanisms that allow for a rapid response to possible violations of electoral law.
"The right to vote is one of the fundamental political human rights. It is extremely important that during the election period, the courts remain independent, impartial and highly qualified. It means that there should be no influence from political parties, candidates, or other authorities, and there should be a deep understanding of electoral law," Nurgul Bakirova pointed out.
She also said that after the early elections are over, the Supreme Court will review court decisions on election disputes to develop a standard practice for their consideration.
Following the meeting, the parties stressed that the effective functioning of the judicial system and compliance with election law are key conditions for holding fair, transparent and competitive elections.
