Representatives of Algeria, China, Iran, Serbia and South Africa took part in the CSTO PA Council meeting
In addition to the delegations of the parliaments of the CSTO Member States, guests from Algeria, China, Iran, Serbia and South Africa arrived to participate in the meeting of the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly on December 19.
Boumediene Gennad, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to the Russian Federation, who arrived at the December 19 meeting, was appointed in October this year. The Ambassador has previously expressed interest in deepening strategic partnership with the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, as well as in developing relations between Russia and Algeria in the context of today’s international and regional agenda, including the situation in the Middle East, North Africa and the Sahara-Sahel region.
Kazem Jalali, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Russian Federation, read out at the Council a message from Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Parliament of Iran, expressing the readiness of the Islamic Republic to pursue a course of rapprochement with the CSTO Member States in order to strengthen regional peace and security.
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization has a long-standing partnership with China. On December 19, Chang Xuhong, Minister Plenipotentiary of the Chinese Embassy in the Russian Federation, took part in the work of the Council.
Momčilo Babić, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Serbia to Russia, conveyed the words of gratitude of Vladimir Orlić, Speaker of the Serbian Parliament, to the international observers from the CSTO PA for their work at the extraordinary parliamentary elections in the Republic of Serbia.
Nosiviwe Noluthando Mapisa-Nqakula, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Parliament of South Africa, also addressed the December 19 meeting. She noted that the CSTO was an important platform, laying “the foundation for conflict resolution, prevention of tension and mitigation of threats.”
As you may recall, foreign delegations from China, Cuba, Iran and Vietnam took part in the work of the previous CSTO PA Council on May 18 in Minsk.
