Kazem Jalali: Iran is interested in strengthening regional security
A joint meeting of the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation Parliamentary Assembly and the 16th CSTO PA plenary session was held in Moscow on December 19.
Kazem Jalali, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Russian Federation, speaking at the meeting of the Council, read out a message from Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran, which expressed the readiness of the Islamic Republic of Iran to pursue a course of rapprochement and convergence in order to strengthen regional peace and security.
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stressed in his message that common threats to the security of the region are rooted in the interference of supra-regional powers, primarily the US and its allies, in regional conflicts and “colour revolutions,” military aggression against countries such as Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and Libya, as well as provocation of regional conflicts, including in Ukraine.
He said the West’s double standards regarding the concept of security and the basic principles of the international system are one of the reasons for the ongoing instability and spread of insecurity at the global level.
Kazem Jalali noted the readiness of the Islamic Republic of Iran to cooperate with the Member States of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation.
