On October 8, at the session of the CSTO PA Standing Committee on Socioeconomic and Legal Issues, deputies of the CSTO Member States’ parliaments unanimously voted for the introduction of amendments to some norms of the main document regulating the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly: the Provisional Regulations on the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
According to Vladimir BAZANOV, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Socioeconomic and Legal Issues, deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee on National Security of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, “Today, at the session of the CSTO PA Standing Committee, we have done what we have been planning to do for a year and a half already. We have brought in line what we really have. The Commission unanimously, without objections, voted for this item.
I, as a deputy from the Republic of Belarus, believe that it is high time for the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly to have a permanent document and to stop living under the Provisional Regulations. The CSTO Parliamentary Assembly has proved its legal capacity in practice. Today it is difficult to imagine the CSTO without an inter-parliamentary cooperation body, but it has been working from the moment of its establishment under a temporary document. It should have been amended long ago.”
