Vyacheslav Volodin called the European Parliament’s statement a flagrant interference in the affairs of Belarus
“The European Parliament’s statement is a flagrant interference in the affairs of Belarus,” said Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, reports the press service of the State Duma.
According to Mr Volodin, “the decision that has been made is not just a flagrant interference in the affairs of a sovereign state, but also an attempt to speak on behalf of the people of Belarus.”
“The authorities in the Republic of Belarus were democratically elected,” reminded Vyacheslav Volodin. “In November last year, the Parliament was elected. International observers took part in the election and confirmed its legitimacy.”
“An attempt to replace the authorities puts the European Parliament’s activity itself into question,” said the Chairman of the State Duma. “If we compare this resolution with other recent actions of Western states, the accusations against Russia become clear. Western countries understand that Russia will not allow a violation of international law; moreover, we have treaty relations within the CSTO and the Union State framework which will prevent the undermining of Belarus’s sovereignty. Against this background, it is obvious why the Navalny provocation was needed: to impose new sanctions and block our country’s actions to protect Belarus,” noted Vyacheslav Volodin.
“After the European Parliament’s statements, we can say that intelligence services of foreign states are behind the Navalny incident. And if such notions as democracy, international law and legality exist in the Western states, they must ensure accountability of those who initiate such decisions in the European Parliament,” added Mr Volodin. “Therefore, I propose to the Bundestag to discuss once again, within the parliamentary framework, to what extent their special services and officials are involved in what is happening. It would also be right for the parliaments of other European states to do the same.”
