On May 21, as part of a bilateral meeting, Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the CSTO PA and Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, held talks with Maulen Ashimbayev, Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Discussing key areas of interparliamentary cooperation between the two countries, the parties reaffirmed their high level of trust and mutual commitment to deepening their alliance.
Vyacheslav Volodin noted that the relations between Russia and Kazakhstan are actively developing at the highest level thanks to the efforts of the presidents of both countries, Vladimir Putin and Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. He emphasized that Kazakhstan is a steadfast strategic partner of Russia, and bilateral cooperation is built on the principles of friendship and reciprocity.
In turn, Maulen Ashimbayev highlighted the multifaceted importance of the bilateral relations. He emphasized that the Russian Federation remains Kazakhstan’s most important political and economic partner, as well as a close neighbor and reliable ally.
In addition, the Kazakhstani Speaker provided detailed information on changes to Kazakhstan’s state structure, made according to the new provisions of the Republic’s Constitution, which were adopted by referendum and will take effect on July 1. He announced that the Republic will hold its first elections to the country’s unicameral Parliament in August and invited Russian deputies to take part in the observer mission.
Maulen Ashimbayev stated that the Kurultai, Kazakhstan’s new Parliament, will give priority to developing interparliamentary ties with the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation. "I have no doubt that the new Parliament will work actively and continue implementing important initiatives aimed at strengthening both interparliamentary ties and relations between our countries," he said.
Vyacheslav Volodin emphasized that Russia supports the choice of the Kazakhstan's citizens and expressed hope that these changes will have a positive impact on relations between the two countries.
