Vyacheslav Volodin: Protecting Historical Truth is the Top Priority of the CSTO PA
On May 19, Bishkek is hosting a meeting of the Council of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.
Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation and Chairman of the CSTO PA, emphasized that the meeting is taking place during the period of celebration of the 80th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
He stressed that rewriting history and diminishing the significance of the feat of the Soviet people is unacceptable, stating the importance of preserving historical memory and countering the revival of Nazism.
"We have a common history. Millions of Soviet citizens, people of different nationalities, stood shoulder to shoulder to defend the Motherland. The Victory came at a high price – 27 million people lost their lives. We will never forget it." Vyacheslav Volodin emphasized.
Chairman of the CSTO PA announced that the Assembly has already adopted five model acts aimed at protecting historical truth and combating Nazism, and by the end of the year the plan is to adopt two more Recommendations, touching upon military and patriotic education and harmonization of the criminal legislation of the CSTO Member States.
Concluding his speech, Vyacheslav Volodin stressed that the CSTO countries are united not only by a common past, but also by the aspiration to build a just multipolar world based on mutual respect and sovereign equality of states.
