“Today, hardly any social relations are left untouched by digitalization processes. This means a much broader capacity to analyze information on the Internet, social networks and computer systems. Therefore, it is necessary to look for new ways of legal protection of an individual, society and state from illegal encroachments in this sphere.
Improvement and harmonization of the cybersecurity legislation of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Member States is a topical issue in the normative work of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly. Thus, in 2017, it adopted the Recommendations to improve criminal legislation of CSTO Member States on combating offences in the information security sphere.
Today, the role of the CSTO in the formation of a common information security strategy is extremely important. Interaction between states allows performing a number of tasks in the fight against illegal encroachments in this sphere. Implementation of strategic measures requires, among other things, harmonization of the legislation of Member States.
Russia acts as a coordinator of the legal integration process in the CSTO space. In this regard, it is important to exchange the latest legal mechanisms with our allies in the Organization, such as: extrajudicial procedure for restricting access to the websites of foreign organizations whose activity is considered undesirable in the Russian Federation and timely blocking the information they disseminate; protection of Russian online resources from foreign threats to their functioning; increasing reliability and ensuring long-term and sustainable operation of the Internet in Russia.
At the same time, it is important to remember that users are also responsible for the personal data security, and here are some tips them: disable location tracking services on your smartphone; install only those applications that are really necessary; restrict the access of applications to the camera, microphone and contacts.
Active improvement and harmonization of relevant legislation will ensure information security in the CSTO space,” said Mr Vyborny.
