Leonid Kalashnikov: Illegal Migration Issues are the Focus of CSTO Parliamentarians’ Attention

Leonid Kalashnikov, Chairman of the Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, gave a speech at the thematic session of the CSTO PA within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum-2025.

In his speech, he stressed that "illegal migration issues are the focus of the CSTO PA's attention."

Leonid Kalashnikov underlined that solving these issues requires coordinated efforts of all Member States of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.

According to Kalashnikov, it's necessary to balance humanitarian and legal aspects of the migration policy.

As you may recall, the migration policy has always been one of the most important matters on the agenda of the CSTO PA. In particular, Recommendations on Harmonization of the CSTO Member States' National Legislation in the Field of Combating Illegal Migration has been developed.

On May 19, at the CSTO PA Council meeting in Bishkek, the Kazakh side proposed to make amendments to the model law on illegal migration.
