On April 24 and 25, 2024, the Seventh All-Belarusian People's Assembly is held in the Palace of the Republic in Minsk. This time it takes place in a new, constitutional, status. Now the Assembly has the right to approve the military doctrine, the concept of national security, to declare a state of emergency or martial law and other rights.
The delegates of the Assembly include 1166 representatives of all social groups and strata from all regions of the country. Among them there are 350 delegates from local Councils of Deputies, another 400 – from civil society.
Aleksandr Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Belarus, has been elected Chairman of the Assembly; and Aleksandr Kosinets, Assistant to the Head of State, – Deputy Chairman.
As you may recall, Belarus is one of the six CSTO Member States. Parliamentarians of the Organization take part in military and political monitoring in Belarus on a permanent basis. For example, in September 2023, a delegation from the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly monitored military exercises in Belarus, while in February 2024, they monitored the parliamentary elections in the Republic.
