CSTO PA Experience in Countering Terrorism Using New Technologies Discussed at the CIS ATC Conference in Moscow
On September 24-26, Moscow is hosting an international conference "Forming an Architecture of Equal and Indivisible Security in the Eurasian Space", organized by the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center and Moscow State Linguistic University.
Participants are discussing measures to counter new challenges and threats to the security of Eurasian states in the face of the crisis situation in the current world order.
Sergei Pospelov, Executive Secretary of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, in his speech underlined that the CSTO states "attach great importance to management issues in the field of artificial intelligence and its use in ensuring national and collective security."
"The Assembly has accumulated extensive experience in legislative regulation of countering the use of artificial intelligence and new technologies, including its use for terrorist and other criminal purposes," Sergei Pospelov shared.
He pointed out that the CSTO PA has adopted a number of acts, such as Recommendations on Countering the Risks of Uncontrolled Proliferation of Virtual Assets, Recommendations on Countering Terrorism at Fuel and Energy Facilities, Guidelines for the competent bodies of the CSTO Member States on operational and investigative support for collective security, and many others.
Current military and political circumstances confirm that the fight against international terrorism is most successful when conducted jointly. It's gratifying to see that the CSTO's aspiration to join forces in this area is unequivocally and positively supported by the UN, SCO, CIS, BRICS, ASEAN, and other formats within the UN system," Sergei Pospelov noted.
Following the discussions, conference materials are to be published.
As you may recall, the CSTO PA Secretariat and the CIS Anti-Terrorism Centre are collaborating to improve the legal framework for countering terrorism. A memorandum of cooperation between the CIS ATC and the CSTO PA was signed in 2015.
