On May 7, Viktor Rogalev, Plenipotentiary Representative of the Parliament of Kazakhstan to the CSTO PA, and Askhat Mukashev, Plenipotentiary Representative of the Parliament of Kazakhstan to the IPA CIS, paid tribute to the fallen in the Great Patriotic War, laying flowers at the Motherland monument at the Piskaryovskoye Memorial Cemetery, as well as at the memorial plaque dedicated to the Kazakh people who died during the defence of Leningrad and breaking of the Nazi siege.
Plenipotentiary Representatives of the Parliament of Kazakhstan also laid flowers at the monument to Aliya Moldagulova, Hero of the Soviet Union, and Jambyl Jabayev, the great Kazakh poet-akyn who praised the heroic feat of the Leningraders under siege and the city's defenders.
"The stories of war heroes are not only our history, but also a moral guide for the future generations. The feat of Aliya Moldagulova, who was the first to rise to the attack and led the soldiers under enemy fire, remains a symbol of courage, selflessness and love for the Motherland," Viktor Rogalev pointed out.
Askhat Mukashev stressed that the memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War, who come from all the CSTO and CIS countries, is alive in the hearts of generations and unites peoples in the pursuit of peace and mutual understanding.
"Today we bow our heads before the feat of all those who fought for freedom and peace, including Kazakh people, whose bravery and selflessness contributed to the joint victory," Askhat Mukashev said.
Today Kazakhstan celebrates Defender of the Fatherland Day, and Astana hosted a large-scale military parade dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. More than four thousand servicemen and over 200 units of military equipment passed through the main square, and 66 airplanes and helicopters of tactical, army and military transport aviation soared in the sky.
