An important result of the meetings was the adoption of three CSTO model laws prepared by the Standing Committee on Defence and Security of the CSTO PA.
They are aimed at regulating peacekeeping activities; stipulating the criminal and administrative offences in the information sphere, which is important in the present context; setting up barriers to material and financial support for terrorism and transnational crime; and distribution of criminal assets for public purposes.
The model legislative acts adopted at the twelfth plenary session of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly to improve legislation, as well as other recommendations, will contribute to strengthening the strategic priorities of Tajikistan’s foreign policy in the following areas:
– ensuring the state’s military security on the basis of the CSTO potential, defence agreements with the Russian Federation and other CSTO Member States;
– maintaining mutually beneficial good neighbourly relations with the countries in the region;
– implementing the decisions On the List of Additional Measures Aimed at Reducing Tension in the Tajik-Afghan Border, adopted by the CSTO Committee of Secretaries of Security Councils as the main priorities of the CSTO for the upcoming years;
– committing to strengthening the CSTO’s role and maintaining the Russian Federation’s military presence in Tajikistan to prevent and protect against external aggression, including by international terrorist, extremist and criminal organizations;
– determination of the leadership of Tajikistan to improve the country’s international standing, strengthen the image of a democratic, secular and law-governed state and create favourable conditions for sustainable socioeconomic development.
