Sergei Aleinik Proposes to Develop a Fundamental Security Charter
Today, on October 26, speaking at the international conference on Eurasian security in Minsk, Sergei Aleinik, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Belarus, proposed to develop a fundamental security charter.
“We have already formulated the idea of preparing a 'Diversity Charter for the 21st Century.' The Eurasian countries and even wider – the countries of the Global East and South, and, in fact, the Global Majority – could openly and transparently develop such a document which would set out the principles for building a just world order, reflecting the diversity of civilizations. Western countries could also become participants in this process,” said the head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.
According to him, European countries should “strengthen existing and form new international organizations, such as the EAEU, SCO, BRICS, CSTO and CICMA. Here we see examples of a new generation of organizations that operate based on fair principles.”
Sergei Aleinik stressed that “western centrism” is a thing of the past.
“This place is taken by multipolarity, polycentrism. Most countries of the world are in favour of a diversity of development paths and want their choice to be respected, not to have alien principles imposed on them. And Eurasia occupies a key place in this process,” Mr Aleinik stressed.
Foreign Minister of Belarus proposed to initiate and hold a summit of heads of state of the Eurasian space “to discuss the future architecture of Eurasian security. The architecture which would ensure lasting peace on our common large continent, the peace necessary for progress, creation and sustainable development of countries and peoples.”
As you may recall, the high-level international conference Eurasian Security: Reality and Prospects in a Transforming World will be held in Minsk on October 26–27.
