A meeting of the 68th session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia took place in Brest, chaired by Vyacheslav Volodin. At the meeting, the Parliamentary Assembly Commission for Preservation and Protection of Historical Memory was established.
"The establishment of this commission is a timely and extremely important step that meets modern challenges. Today we are facing attempts to falsify history, revise the results of the Second World War and belittle the feat of the Soviet people. For the CSTO states, for our entire integration space, preserving the historical truth is not only a matter of memory, but also a matter of national security, social solidarity and education of the youth in the spirit of patriotism and respect for the heroic deeds of their ancestors," said Sergei Rachkov, Chairman of the Standing Commission on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, member of the CSTO PA Permanent Commission on Political Affairs and International Cooperation.
The Commission is expected to become an important platform for consolidating the efforts of public and political forces of Belarus and Russia, as well as for involving young people in joint projects to protect the historical truth.
As you may recall, the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly consistently advocates strengthening cooperation in this field, develops recommendations to combat falsification of history and actively supports the exchange of experience between the Member States of the Organization.
