On October 31, the II Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security began in the capital of Belarus.
Aleksandr Lukashenko, President of Belarus, noted that the previous Minsk conference had surprised even the most ardent skeptics who doubted that it was possible to gather representatives of both the West and the East in such a turbulent time. As a result, a draft Charter on Diversity and Multipolarity in the Twenty-first Century appeared; and the current conference will continue to work on it.
“Unfortunately, today the platforms hosting open, constructive expert discussions on international security can be counted on the fingers of one hand. And honest conversation and unbiased assessment of current events are vital to us,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko.
According to him, the modern world needs efficient measures to counter modern challenges and threats. “If we fail to unite in this area and to develop and implement these measures, there will be disastrous,” emphasized the Belarusian leader.
Imangali Tasmagambetov, CSTO Secretary General, noted that the CSTO does not pursue the goal to become a counterweight to any organization or state.
“The focal point of all our actions is to ensure equal and indivisible security of the Organization's Member States based on the principle of consensus and refusal from rigid bloc thinking. We do not pursue the goal to become a 'counterweight' to any other organization or state,” said Imangali Tasmagambetov.
Parliamentarians of the Collective Security Treaty Organization and representatives of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly Secretariat are also taking part in the conference.
