On April 10, the headquarters of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in Moscow hosted the 39th meeting of the Working Group on Afghanistan under the CSTO Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs.
It was attended by Samat Ordabaev, Acting deputy Secretary General of the CSTO, Taalatbek Masadykov, CSTO deputy Secretary General, Sergei Pospelov, Executive Secretary of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, Permanent and Plenipotentiary Representatives to the CSTO, representatives of the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism and the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure, the International Committee of the Red Cross, specialized departments of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center, the Coordination Service of the Council of Commanders of Border Troops and other agencies.
A thorough exchange of views was held on issues related to the military and political situation in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (IRA) and threats to the security of CSTO Member States emanating from the territory of the country.
The participants of the meeting stressed the need to continue consolidating the efforts of the CSTO Member States in Afghanistan within the Organization, on a bilateral basis and through relevant international platforms.
The Organization's experts are constantly monitoring the current situation in Afghanistan. The results are analyzed and regularly discussed at meetings of the Organization's governing and working bodies – the Collective Security Council, the Council of Foreign Ministers, the Committee of Secretaries of Security Councils and the Permanent Council.
As a result, the minutes of the meeting and the Group's Action Plan for the second half of 2024 were adopted.
