Viktor Vasilyev Expressed Concern over the Escalating Situation on the Belarusian-Ukrainian Border
Viktor Vasilyev, Chairman of the CSTO Permanent Council, Plenipotentiary Representative of the Russian Federation to the CSTO, gave a keynote report on implementing the Russian Federation’s priorities during its CSTO chairmanship at the CSTO PA thematic session held as part of the 2026 St. Petersburg International Legal Forum.
He pointed out that a number of crucial documents were approved at the meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the CSTO Member States in Kazan.
"The CSTO Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Kazan, which marked the conclusion of the first phase of the Russian Federation’s CSTO chairmanship, once again demonstrated the strong unity among CSTO Member States in the face of unprecedented turbulence in international relations. We are witnessing deliberate attempts to destabilize the situation in the Eurasian region; however, close coordination among our countries allows us not only to promptly counter these threats but also to take preemptive action," noted Viktor Vasilyev.
The diplomat emphasized that protecting historical truth remains the CSTO's priority.
"We adopted a Statement marking the 85th anniversary of the start of the Great Patriotic War, which underscores the importance of preserving historical memory and its unifying role for the CSTO Member States," Viktor Vasilyev pointed out
In addition, the diplomat expressed concern over the growing tension on the Belarusian-Ukrainian Border.
"The situation on the border between Ukraine and Belarus is escalating; Ukrainian UAVs crossing into Russian territory have become a near-daily occurrence," he observed.
