The fight against falsification of the history of the Second World War will be among top priorities of Russia’s work as president of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). Russian Foreign Minister Sergei LAVROV stated this on Monday, opening a meeting with CSTO Secretary General Stanislav ZAS.
"This [preservation of historical memory and fight against falsification of history of the Second World War] is a main area of focus of our initiatives and priorities during the Russian presidency. In addition to a political, memorial and purely military component, there is also a legal component, as I have already said, because currently there are attempts to question the legal outcome of the Second World War," TASS quotes Sergei LAVROV.
“[The Russian President] Vladimir PUTIN has spoken about it many times, and the President of the Republic of Belarus [Alexander] LUKASHENKO also regularly stresses that rewriting the history of the war is unacceptable. And I am convinced that all CSTO countries are united in this, as our joint work demonstrates. We will do our best to help you in all areas of activity that the heads of state will authorize,” he added.
In response, Mr ZAS pointed out that the Victory celebration is “has a colossal impact on people.” The CSTO has planned a number of exhibitions. “We must defend the truth about the Victory and resist all these falsification attempts. That is the main purpose of this work, especially now that we have such a good reason: the 75th anniversary of the Victory,” he summed up.
