On April 1, Imangali Tasmagambetov, CSTO Secretary General, said in an interview with Interfax that after the cynical terrorist attack in Moscow Region it is important to "keep a cool head", especially not to "sway" the situation in migration policy.
"A comprehensive assessment of the consequences of this cynical attack [the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall] on civilians shows that the repercussions can be very different. The key task the criminals had was to initiate a split in societies of Russia and Central Asian countries. According to the calculations of geopolitical forces unfriendly to post-Soviet Eurasia, swaying the internal situation by provoking inter-ethnic and inter-religious division will allow them to "zero out" cooperation and interaction between Russia and Central Asian countries with maximum damage to all parties," warned Imangali Tasmagambetov.
The CSTO Secretary General also noted that the terrorists intended to provoke over-emotional actions.
"Hence the mistakes that can have extremely negative and long-lasting consequences. Many of us have already observed these repercussions at the everyday level, in interpersonal relations between representatives of different nations in a number of states over the past week. Therefore, it is extremely important not to allow the situation in Russia's national and migration policy to be swayed," Mr. Tasmagambetov emphasized.
He added that the Collective Security Treaty Organization will not be affected by the crisis caused by possible changes in Russia's migration and national policy, as the foundations of the Eurasian system of collective security "are capable to withstand such challenges."
