Hendrik Daems, PACE President; Reinhold Lopatka, Chair of the OSCE PA Ad Hoc Committee on Countering Terrorism; Sergei Lebedev, CIS Executive Committee Chairman; Ghada Fathi Waly, UN Under-Secretary-General; Pyry Niemi, President of the Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference; Jürgen Stock, Interpol Secretary General; Andrei Novikov, Head of the CIS Counter-Terrorism Centre; and Sergei Pospelov, CSTO PA Executive Secretary, participated remotely.
As Ms Matvienko noted, “the COVID-19 epidemic made countering the terrorist threat even more difficult. In these conditions, comprehensive strengthening of international cooperation mechanisms becomes especially relevant.”
Ivan Melnikov, first deputy Chairman of the Russian Duma, noted that Russia has built an effective interaction model for state bodies to prevent terrorism and extremism.
The development of a set of new measures to counter terrorism financing was a major result of the past year, made possible by amending the Russian law On Countering Legalization (Laundering) of Illicit Income and Terrorism Financing.
As you may recall, on November 30, 2020 at its plenary session, the CSTO PA adopted the Recommendations on Countering Illicit Trafficking of Weapons of Mass Destruction as part of the FATF international standards.
