Parliamentarians of the Assembly will visit the CSTO Peacekeeping Forces’ exercise
On November 8–12, 2021, representatives of the Coordination Council of Chairpersons of Committees (Commissions) on Defence and Security of the Parliaments of the CSTO Member States will take part in the exercise of the CSTO Collective Peacekeeping Forces Unbreakable Brotherhood 2021 to conduct military and political monitoring of the situation in the area of responsibility of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. It will take place in the Russian Federation within the framework of the joint operational and strategic exercise Combat Brotherhood 2021.
According to the press service of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, a unit of the CSTO Troops (Collective Forces) will practice preparation and conduct of a peacekeeping operation by the CSTO Collective Peacekeeping Forces at the Kazan Higher Tank Command Red Banner School of the Order of Zhukov.
The exercise’s main tasks are to improve practical skills of command officials of the CSTO Troops (Collective Forces) in the organization and control of subordinate troops when carrying out their intended tasks and to improve the cohesion of military units and subdivisions comprising the CSTO CPF in the course of a peacekeeping operation.
Planned participants include military contingents of the CSTO Member States, military police units, task forces of the CSTO Joint Staff and Secretariat, formations of internal affairs bodies (police), national guards and authorized bodies for emergency prevention and response.
The peacekeeping forces will practice roadblock actions, refugee camp tasks, escorting humanitarian convoys, containing a populated area, storming a building occupied by “militants” and freeing “hostages” and helping victims.

The CSTO Peacekeeping Forces are a set of peacekeeping contingents designed to participate in peacekeeping operations of the CSTO.
Organization’s Member States permanently assign peacekeeping contingents, in accordance with their national legislation, to man the peacekeeping forces.
The peacekeeping contingents of the CSTO Member States are specially trained military, police and civilian personnel as well as forces and assets provided by the CSTO Member States to the CSTO Peacekeeping Forces.
The total number of personnel is about 3,600.
Collective Peacekeeping Forces are created from the Peacekeeping Forces to participate in a particular peacekeeping operation.
The CSTO Collective Peacekeeping Forces are units (subunits) from the peacekeeping contingents allocated by the Organization’s Member States for the duration of a peacekeeping operation.
The composition, structure and size of the Collective Peacekeeping Forces are determined by a decision of the CSTO Collective Security Council for each individual peacekeeping operation, based on the scope of the tasks to be performed and the specific situation in the conflict zone.
