Chairman of the CSTO CSC, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon approved the Plan of Implementation of Decisions of the CSC Session and Priorities of the Tajik Side in 2021
At the meeting in Dushanbe with Stanislav Zas, CSTO Secretary General, Emomali Rahmon, Chairman of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization and President of the Republic of Tajikistan, approved the Plan of Implementation of Decisions of the CSC Session and Priorities of the Tajik Side in 2021, the CSTO press service reports.
Stanislav Zas reported to the CSC Chairman that the document was prepared based on the decisions of the December (2020) session of the CSTO CSC and taking into account the proposals made during the session and at the meetings of the CSTO CFM, CMD and CSTO CSSC with a focus on the priorities of the Tajik chairmanship in the Organization.
“The plan envisages practical steps in political, military, economic and technical cooperation, as well as joint countering the challenges and threats to the security of the Organization’s Member States,” the CSTO Secretary General noted.
He reported that separate sections of the Plan deal with crisis response, the CSTO peacekeeping activities, as well as measures to reduce tension in the Tajik-Afghan border area. Mr Zas stressed that the document provides for the coordination of the draft CSTO Target Interstate Programme for strengthening the Tajik-Afghan section of the border.
According to the khovar.tj news agency, the President of Tajikistan emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation within the CSTO in effectively countering the trends in the spread of destructive radical ideologies within its area of responsibility, as well as the fight against cybercrime and other illegal activities that use the ICT.
In this regard, it was pointed out that it is important to step up the efforts to implementat the CSC decision On the List of Additional Measures Aimed at Reducing Tension in the Tajik-Afghan Border, to work on the adoption of the Single List of Organizations Recognized as Terrorist in the CSTO format.
During discussions of international and regional issues, particular attention was paid to the evolving situation in Afghanistan, as well as the growing trend of global threats of terrorism, extremism, various forms of radicalism and transnational organized crime, including illicit drug trafficking.
In this regard, Emomali Rahmon noted the relevance of building the CSTO’s capacity to effectively combat these security risks and threats.
The Chairman of the Collective Security Council and President of the Republic of Tajikistan discussed with the CSTO Secretary General Tajikistan’s hosting in 2021 the in-person session of the Collective Security Council and the meetings of the statutory bodies: the CSTO Collective Security Council, the CFM, CMD, CSTO CSSC and the joint exercises with CSTO Collective Rapid Reaction Force Vzaimodeystviye-2021, special exercises with the intelligence Poisk-2021 and exercises with logistics function Echelon-2021.
