Kazakh CEC Chairman Praised CSTO PA Mission’s Participation in Election Monitoring
The Central Election Commission of Kazakhstan hosted a meeting between the CEC leadership and a group of international observers from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
Nurlan Abdirov, Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan, spoke about the process of implementing innovations in the 2023 election.
In particular, amendments to electoral legislation now allow citizens of Kazakhstan to self-nominate. In addition, in 2023 accreditation of national observers was introduced.
Nurlan Abdirov said that the CEC registered Mazhilis ballots from seven political parties. The ballots include 281 candidates, including 107 women, young people and persons with disabilities. By law, they must constitute at least 30 per cent of the party ticket.
Assessing the work of international observers, Nurlan Abdirov praised the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly observers’ high level of work and expressed hope for future cooperation.
A total of 793 international observers from 41 countries registered by the CEC of Kazakhstan will monitor the election to the Mazhilis and maslikhats.
