Putin and Rahmon Declare CSTO’s Leading Role in Maintaining Regional Stability
During talks in Dushanbe, Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, and EmomaliRahmon, President of Tajikistan, stressed the significance of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in ensuring security and stability in the region.
In a joint statement, the leaders of the two countries stated that both parties confirm the leading role of the CSTO in maintaining regional stability and expressed their commitment to further strengthening the Organization's potential.
Particular attention is to be paid to the development of the CSTO Collective Forces, including their peacekeeping component, increasing combat readiness and synchronizing the actions of the defence ministries of Member States.
The parties also emphasized the importance of strengthening foreign policy coordination within the CSTO, as well as expanding cooperation with other international structures.
Russia and Tajikistan praised the practical role of the CSTO in countering transnational threats – terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking, organized crime and illegal migration.
"The parties agree that security issues should be addressed within the framework of cooperation between the states of the region through the CSTO. The parties will not allow interference in regional issues, including those in Central Asia, by states and military-political organizations outside the region," the statement says.
The Russian Federation, which will assume the chairmanship of the CSTO in 2026, intends to intensify efforts to modernize and consolidate the Organization.
