Heads of CSTO States proposed a general meeting of representatives of the CSTO, CIS, SCO, OSCE, NATO and EU to discuss their security strategies
The remote meeting was chaired by Vladimir Putin, Chairman of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization and President of the Russian Federation.
The meeting discussed allied cooperation within the organization, further enhancing CSTO’s effectiveness and current international and regional security issues.
In his speech, Vladimir Putin, Chairman of the CSTO CSC and President of the Russian Federation, said that during its chairmanship of the CSTO, Russia had focused its efforts to further develop strategic partnership with the CSTO Member States and to continue an open and trusting dialogue on the entire range of security issues.
Vladimir Putin noted that despite the pandemic, work on priority areas for the CSTO was carried out as planned. “During the year, a number of significant events took place, including meetings of the Council of Foreign Ministers and the Committee of Secretaries of Security Councils,” TASS quotes the CSTO CSC Chairman, “In addition, for the first time in September, Moscow hosted a joint meeting of defence ministers of the CSTO Member States, as well as of the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.”
“We expect that meetings in this extended format will become regular, as they allow for better coordination of military and political positions with our key partners,” added the President. “By the way, we consider promising the possibility of granting observer and partner status to countries wishing to maintain regular relations with the CSTO.”
The meeting was attended by Nikol Pashinyan, Prime Minister of Armenia; Aleksandr Lukashenko, President of Belarus; Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kazakhstan; Talent Mamytov, Acting President of the Kyrgyz Republic and Emomali Rahmon, President of Tajikistan.
The meeting agenda includes draft decisions on material, technical and medical support of the CSTO Collective Force and improvement of the personnel training system for the public bodies of the CSTO Member States.
The CSTO CSC adopted the Declaration of the CSTO Collective Security Council and the Statement on the Formation of a Fair and Sustainable World Order.
According to RIA Novosti, the leaders of the CSTO Member States also proposed to hold a general meeting of representatives of the CSTO, CIS, SCO, OSCE, NATO and EU and discuss their security strategies, which would be the first step towards creating an indivisible security space and the formation of a fair and sustainable world order.
The Republic of Tajikistan will take over the chairmanship of the organization in 2021.
