Viktor Vasilyev: Close Coordination of CSTO Member States Counters Threats and Takes Preemptive Action
A meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Collective Security Treaty Organization Member States has ended in Kazan. As a result, several documents were approved, including four political statements.
Viktor Vasilyev, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the CSTO, emphasized the importance of the statement on strengthening international law and abidance by the principles of the UN Charter, praising the cooperation of the Organization’s Member States in terms of military and military and technical interaction, as well as in terms of taking key political decisions.
“The meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers in Kazan, concluding the first phase of Russia's CSTO chairmanship, has once again demonstrated high cooperation of CSTO Member States against unprecedented chaos in international relations. We see deliberate attempts to destabilize the situation in the Eurasian region, but close coordination of our states allows us not only to promptly counter these threats but also to take preemptive action. “Yesterday, Sergey Lavrov, current Chair of the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers, emphasized that currently, Eurasia serves as a platform for development of processes that play a crucial role in shaping a more just multipolar world order,” noted Viktor Vasilyev.
The diplomat pointed out that protecting historical truth remains a priority for the CSTO.
“Among the adopted decisions, there is a statement on the 85th anniversary of the start of the Great Patriotic War, highlighting the importance of preserving historical memory and its unifying role for CSTO Member States,” Viktor Vasilyev noted. “There have been separate statements on countering threats related to the use of information and communication technologies for sabotage and terrorist purposes and on preventing arms race in outer space."
The documents approved in Kazan will be submitted for review of the CSTO Collective Security Council meeting, which will take place on November 11 in Moscow.
