Vladimir Andreichenko: Fake news and disinformation should not be tolerated
Vladimir Andreichenko, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, in his speech at the field meeting of the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization in Yerevan on June 6 noted the need to confront fake news and disinformation as an agenda-forming platform for international organizations and called to strengthen cybersecurity.
“The most powerful information warfare against our states and peoples, as well as the unwillingness of the collective West to honestly and objectively assess what is happening cannot be left unanswered. Today, it is already obvious that the collective West strictly filters and blocks objective information about world events. Instead, it creates and proliferates ridiculous fake news, the main purpose of which is, simply put, to fool the population,” said Vladimir Andreichenko.
“There is a need to use the entire arsenal to defend the vital interests of our states, and in this regard the forthcoming session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Birmingham should become an example of joint collective action against the imposition of a unipolar world and domination of factually questionable positions and opinions,” said the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus.
In addition, according to Vladimir Andreichenko, targeted actions to discredit the authorities and support extremist elements in the CSTO States are of particular concern.
“We must strengthen the counteraction against the use of information technologies for criminal purposes at the level of national legislations and to exchange experience in this sphere more actively. We have grounds for that: the model law On Information Security adopted at the session of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly on November 29 last year,” said the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus.
