Republic of Kazakhstan will develop a biosecurity law taking into account the experience of international organizations
Meeting of the Biological Security Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan addressed the development of the Law on Biosecurity.
On August 7, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yeraly Tugzhanov held a remote meeting of the Biological Security Council established by the order the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
According to Kazinform news agency, the meeting addressed current issues of the country’s biosecurity, including the need for a separate law, vaccination of the population against COVID-19, personnel training and scientific research development.
During the discussion, scientists and experts highly appreciated the importance of the Council, which will serve as a dialogue platform for the development of systematic measures for the further development of biosecurity in the country.
The Ministry of Education and Science reported that the country’s scientific potential in biosecurity and biotechnology is represented by 12 scientific institutions; they have produced 68 vaccines against highly dangerous diseases and have developed 52 types of biopharmaceuticals.
The Council will establish cooperation with reputable international organizations and biosecurity research institutes to implement the best international practices in Kazakhstan and analyse the domestic market for biosecurity products.
“The Council must develop systematic proposals for biosecurity development, taking into account the introduction of new technologies, digitalization, scientific discoveries and forecasts. It is necessary to estimate the need for personnel in the field of biosecurity as soon as possible, to update training programmes to meet current requirements and to focus the scientific research on more applicable areas and topics. Moreover, a relevant draft law is necessary for legislative regulation of biosecurity issues,” Mr Tugzhanov said.
Let us recall that the item On the Coronavirus Situation and Possible Legislative Proposals for the Coordination of the CSTO Member Sates’ Actions to Develop Comprehensive Measures to Ensure Security in Case of Pandemics was proposed for discussion at the CSTO PA Council meeting on June 15, 2020.
