A remote meeting of the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization was held on June 15, 2020.
The meeting addressed topical issues of ensuring international, collective and national security amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization and Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, devoted his speech to the priority issues of the Russian Federation during its 2020 presidency in the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
The meeting’s participants reviewed the appointment of the Chairman of the Standing Commission on Socioeconomic and Legal Issues of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly. Sergei Pospelov, CSTO PA Executive Secretary, proposed a candidate for the position.
Igor Lavrinenko, deputy Chairman of the Standing Commission on National Security of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, was appointed Chairman of the CSTO PA Standing Commission on Socioeconomic and Legal Issues.
Stanislav Zas, CSTO Secretary General, reported to the Council members and participants of the CSTO PA Council meeting on the outcome of the November (2019) session of the CSTO Collective Security Council; the situation in the CSTO area of responsibility; measures taken to counter challenges and threats to collective security; and ratification of international treaties concluded within the CSTO.
Anatoly Vyborny, Chairman of the CSTO PA Standing Commission on Defence and Security and member of the Commission on Security and Corruption Control of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Igor Lavrinenko, Chairman of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly Standing Commission on Socioeconomic and Legal Issues, and Alen Simonyan, Chairman of the CSTO PA Standing Commission on Political Affairs and International Cooperation and Vice President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, reported to the CSTO PA Council members on the results of the implementation of the 2016–2020 Collective Security Treaty Organization Parliamentary Assembly Action Plan on Approximation and Harmonization of National Legislation of the CSTO Member States and the draft 2021–2025 Collective Security Treaty Organization Parliamentary Assembly Action Plan on Approximation and Harmonization of National Legislation of the CSTO Member States.
The CSTO PA Council without discussion adopted a resolution On the Coordination of the CSTO Member States Parliamentary Delegations’ actions at the regular winter session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (February 20–21, 2020, Vienna).
