September 2 is Russian Guards Day

On September 2, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation celebrate the Russian Guards Day. It was established on December 22, 2000 by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation in connection with the 300th anniversary of the Russian Guards, as well as for the purpose of revival and development of national military traditions.

Currently, more than 100 military units and formations of the Russian Army and Navy have the honourable title of Guards.

In April 2016, by Presidential Decree, the Federal Service of National Guard Troops of the Russian Federation (FSNGT or Rosgvardia) was established, which also includes the National Guard Troops of the Russian Federation, established at the same time on the basis of the Internal Troops of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs.

On this festive day, ceremonial events are held in all Guards formations, on ships and military units.
