On September 3, the Russian Federation holds the Day of Solidarity in the Fight against Terrorism
In 2020, Russia holds events dedicated to this solemn date are held for the 15th time.
On this day, Russia commemorates thousands of compatriots who died at the hands of terrorists in Beslan, Dubrovka Theatre Centre, Budennovsk, Pervomaiskoye, in the bombings of residential buildings in Moscow, Buinaksk and Volgodonsk, as well as in hundreds of other terrorist attacks.
On September 1, terrorists attacked school No. 1 in Beslan during a ceremonial school assembly. At that time, there were more than 1,000 people attending the ceremony, all of them were driven by gunmen inside the school and held there for nearly three days. The hostages were held in terrible conditions.
The school building where the hostages were being held was rigged with explosives.
On September 3, the building was stormed, which resulted in deaths of several dozen officers of the Russian special force involved in the operation. As a result of the terrorist attack, 333 people were killed, 186 of them were children aged 1 to 17.
The Beslan terrorist attack has become one of the most inhumane acts of terror in modern Russian history.
To commemorate the victims of Beslan, on July 21, 2005, the federal law On Amendments to the Federal Law On Days of Military Glory (Victory Days) of Russia established the Day of Solidarity in the Fight Against Terrorism in Russia.
The CSTO Parliamentary Assembly adopted the CSTO model law On Information Confrontation Against Terrorism and Extremism; CSTO model law On Ensuring National Security; recommendations on approximation of the legislation of the CSTO Member States on international legal assistance in criminal cases within the framework of combating terrorism and transborder crime; On Improvement of Regulatory Support of Combating Technological Terrorism in the CSTO Member States; On Approximation and Harmonization of National Legislation of the CSTO Member States in the Field of Combating Terrorism and Extremism; Appeal to Parliaments of the States of the World and International Parliamentary Organizations to Join Efforts in Countering Terrorism and Any Forms of Extremism at the Present Stage.
