Constitution Day is celebrated in Armenia on July 5. On this day in 1995 the draft of the Constitution was submitted to the nationwide referendum and approved by the Armenian people. The Basic Law of 1995 became the first Constitution of independent Armenia, by which the Republic lives.
The country’s Constitution was amended twice: by referendum on November 27, 2005 and by referendum on December 6, 2015.
On July 5, the country also celebrates the Day of State Symbols: the flag, coat of arms and anthem. In accordance with the Constitution, Armenia’s coat of arms depicts Mount Ararat, Noah’s Ark and the coats of arms of the four kingdoms of historical Armenia. The shield is supported by an eagle and a lion, with a sword, a branch, a sheaf of ears, a chain and a ribbon being depicted under the shield.
The flag of Armenia consists of three colours, red, blue and orange. The anthem of the Republic is Our Homeland.
Congratulating Armenians on Constitution Day, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that in order to protect Armenia’s sovereignty, the current government will continue to pursue regional peace.
