Aleksandr Markevich Presented a Draft Statement on Preventing Drug Use Among Children and Young People
On March 29, meetings of the CSTO PA Standing Commissions were held at the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly Headquarters in St Petersburg.
In his report on the draft Declaration on Preventing Drug Use Among Children and Young People, Aleksandr Markevich, Chairman of the Commission on Socioeconomic and Legal Issues, said that the Republic of Belarus pays utmost attention to the topic of combating drugs and drug trafficking.
“The problem of drug use among children and young people and its negative repercussions for their own health, as well as for the health, security and well-being of their families and the entire society, has long concerned the entire international community,” stressed Mr Markevich.
According to him, the experience accumulated by the CSTO Member States in the field of preventing drug use among children and young people shows that now it is extremely important to develop a comprehensive approach to this issue at the national level, as well as the relevant evidence-based policies.
“In the light of the implementation of comprehensive practical measures to deliver the 2021–2025 Anti-Drug Strategy of the CSTO Member States, the Belarusian parliamentarians are ready to initiate this year the review of a draft joint statement on preventing drug use among children and young people. Our delegation will prepare the draft statemen,” the speaker said.
Such a statement, he said, would be aimed at giving further impetus to the efforts already under way within the CSTO to address the problem of preventing drug use among children and young people through comprehensive and holistic approaches.
