In an interview to the Izvestia newspaper, Alexey Evsikov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Mongolia, said that Russia welcomes Mongolia's contacts with the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and is ready to consider any forms of interaction.
“Regarding Mongolia's possibility to join the CSTO, I can say that according to Mongolian legislation, the country cannot join military and political organizations. Nevertheless, we have always welcomed its contacts with the organization and are ready to consider any forms of interaction and partnership,” the Ambassador declared.
He added that in August 2024, Russia and Mongolia held Selenga joint military exercises. They were attended by units of the Ground Forces, Aerospace Forces and special forces. These exercises have been successfully held since 2008 and have become a trademark of military cooperation between the two countries.
