Security of the Caucasus and Eastern Europe is the focus of attention of the Assembly’s parliamentarians
On May 25, 2021, a field meeting of the Coordination Council of Chairpersons of Committees (Commissions) on Defence and Security of the Parliaments of the CSTO Member States under the Council of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly was held in Moscow.
It took place at the CSTO Joint Staff and was presided over by Vladimir Shamanov, Chairman of the Coordination Council of Chairpersons of Committees (Commissions) on Defence and Security of the Parliaments of the CSTO Member States under the Council of the CSTO PA and Chairman of the Defence Committee of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
The parliamentarians heard the report of the Valery Semerikov, CSTO deputy Secretary General, on countering challenges and threats to collective security and current state and prospects of military cooperation within the CSTO.
Rustam Shokhmurod, Chairman of the Committee on Law, Defence and Security of Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan, spoke about the implementation of Tajikistan’s priorities for the duration of its presidency in the CSTO in 2021.
Andranik Kocharyan, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Defence and Security of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, spoke to the meeting participants about military and political situation in the CSTO Caucasian region of collective security.
A representative of intelligence services of the Headquarters of the Western Military District of the Russian Ministry of Defence reported on the state of military security provision in the CSTO Eastern European region of collective security.
Aleksei Maruev, head of the Research Centre of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, made a report on the current threats and their development trends in the CSTO Eastern European region of collective security.
Ilya Denisov, deputy Minister for Civil Defence, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters, reported on ensuring technogenic security and protection from natural disasters.
Mikhail Deev, head of the Department for International Cooperation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, reported on the state of public security and crime control.
Members of the Coordination Council together with representatives of the Russian Federation’s relevant bodies discussed in detail the current military and political situation in the CSTO Eastern European region of collective security.
Head of the CSTO Joint Staff Anatoly Sidorov reported on the joint exercise with the CSTO Troops (Collective Forces) in 2021.
Participants in the Coordination Council meeting were given a presentation about Patriot, a military and patriotic park of the Russian Armed Forces.
