Combat units of the S-300 missile system in Tajikistan destroyed simulated enemy cruise missiles during an exercise
Combat units of the S-300 missile system of the Russian military base in Tajikistan destroyed simulated enemy cruise missiles by electronic launch in the course of a planned air defence exercise. According to the press service of the Central Military District of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation, during the combat mission to protect the airspace over the facilities of the Russian compound and the Central Asian region of collective security, anti-aircraft gunners performed standard procedures for the deployment of the S-300 missile system and for the search, classification and tracking of simulated targets and their further destruction.
The exercise involved reloading S-300PS systems with missiles, while the security and defence units practiced repelling an attack by simulated sabotage and reconnaissance groups on the reflection at combat positions.
It was a planned exercise to repel an aerial attack, involving more than 100 servicemen and over 20 units of weaponry and military equipment, including anti-aircraft missile system transport and loaders.
The 201st military base deployed in Tajikistan is the largest military facility of Russia outside its borders. It is stationed in two cities, Dushanbe and Bokhtar. It includes motorized rifle, tank, artillery, reconnaissance, air defence, NBC protection and communications units.
