CSTO PA Delegates Urged the Inter-Parliamentary Union to Be Independent from Geopolitical Manipulations
The 149th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is taking place in Geneva from October 13 to 17. Parliamentary delegations of the CSTO Member States are also taking part in it.
Sergei Rachkov, Chairman of the Standing Commission on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, informed his colleagues-parliamentarians about the consistent policy of Belarus in the sphere of international security.
During the coordination meeting of the heads of the parliamentary delegations of the CSTO Member States in the IPU, he emphasized the need to coordinate the colleagues' positions regarding the results of the vote on the emergency Arab resolution on the Palestinian situation.
The Arab resolution did not get the necessary 2/3 of votes and was not included in the Assembly's agenda as an emergency item. Around 60 votes in support were missing.
“We have once again witnessed the manipulations of the Twelve Plus geopolitical group. The item put on the Assembly's agenda at the suggestion of France and other countries has nothing to do with an emergency. The discussion of the 'Arab resolution' took place against the background of a major confrontation between Israel and Iran to include their emergency item in the agenda, which may have partially diverted the delegations' attention from the necessary support for the resolution on Palestine,” Sergei Rachkov shared in a comment to the CSTO PA press service.
Delegates from other CSTO Member States participating in the IPU Assembly agreed that this event has become another example of political manipulation and urged the Inter-Parliamentary Union to be independent from this kind of pressure. They noted that a more attentive approach is needed for issues related to peace and stability.
