Eduard Yeritsyan: Conflict potential builds up along the perimeter of the CSTO States
Tensions in the area of responsibility of the Collective Security Treaty Organization are not decreasing and the Organization continues to face new challenges and threats. Conflict potential builds up all along the perimeter of the CSTO Member States.
Sputnik Armenia cites Colonel Eduard Yeritsyan, deputy head of the Defence Policy Department of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia, as saying this in Yerevan State University at the international conference Present and Future of the CSTO: On the 30th Anniversary of the Collective Security Treaty and the 20th Anniversary of the CSTO Establishment.
“We see that there is no de-escalation of tensions in the CSTO area of responsibility and the Member States of the Organization continue to face new challenges and threats. I am confident that all these challenges and threats can be overcome through collective efforts and adherence to the unshakable principle of ‘one for all, and all for one.’ I believe that this principle is mandatory for this kind of organizations,” Eduard Yeritsyan stressed.
In his speech at the conference, Mr Yeritsyan noted that Armenia’s presidency in CSTO statutory bodies is taking place amid a rapidly deteriorating global military and political situation, which is why strengthening foreign policy coordination and mutual support is one of the country’s main priorities. Particularly, this involves the need to develop coordinated approaches on international and regional issues affecting the interests of the CSTO Member States.
Eduard Yeritsyan positively assessed the “cohesion, determination and unity demonstrated by allied states with regard to the situation in Kazakhstan during the January peacekeeping operation,” and expressed his confidence that the same unity must be demonstrated with regard to any other CSTO Member State.
