Experts of the CIS Anti-Terrorist Centre Strengthen Interaction with the CSTO PA
On October 25, Moscow hosted the international research-to practice conference Strategic Vectors of Transit of Post-Soviet States and Geopolitical Challenges to the CIS Member States: Analysis and Forecast.
The conference participants discussed new challenges and threats to the security of post-Soviet states in the context of analysis of the results of the 30-year political transit and development prospects; international terrorism as a factor in the geopolitical situation in the post-Soviet space; terrorist and extremist threats; countering radicalization of the population and its involvement in terrorist and extremist activities; combating terrorism and other issues.
Speaking at the section devoted to the problems of terrorism and extremism in the regional geopolitical dimension, Sergei Pospelov, Executive Secretary of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, noted that success in the fight against terror was determined by two conceptual points: the cohesion of the international community and the implementation of proactive and reactive measures set forth in the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.
“It is obvious that effective counteraction to such a wide range of challenges and threats is linked to fulfilment of certain conditions. Among them is the unification and coordination of efforts and, most importantly, of the information and analytical potential of the parties concerned. Undoubtedly, the large-scale meeting today, organized by the CIS Anti-Terrorism Centre and the Moscow State Linguistic University, is a shining example of such expert dialogue and cooperation,” Mr Pospelov said.
As you may recall, a number of model acts and recommendations of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly are aimed at countering terrorist threats. Among them are the CSTO model law On Countering Terrorism and Extremism Through Information, Recommendations on Countering Terrorism and Extremism, Recommendations on Improving Legislative Support for Countering Technological Terrorism in CSTO Member States, and others.
