Belarusian State University and CSTO PA Secretariat agree on joint work
Today a working meeting between Andrei Korol, Rector of the Belarusian State University, and the Sergei Pospelov, Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, was held in Minsk.
The meeting focused on the involvement of the BSU in research projects on model lawmaking and legislative initiatives concerning national and collective security of the CSTO Member States, as well as in addressing new challenges and threats, interacting in the field of expert analysis, holding joint working meetings and conferences, exchanging research and information publications and materials, advise in promoting interests of the parties and other issues.
The Cooperation Agreement stipulates that the parties “mutually share the importance of such common values as the strengthening of peace, international and regional security and stability, collective defence of the independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of the CSTO Member States.”
The signing ceremony was also attended by Viktor Kogut, plenipotentiary representative of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus to the CSTO PA; Andrei Kudryavtsev and Olesya Ryabukhina, representatives of the CSTO PA Secretariat; Elena Dostanko, Dean of the BSU International Relations Department; Aleksandr Zhuk, Head of International Relations Directorate; and Evgeny Haruk, Head of Expert and Analytical Directorate, as well as experts and students of the BSU.
In his address to the expert community, Sergei Pospelov, Executive Secretary of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, outlined the Assembly’s main activities, on which joint work is proposed.
“It is crucial that we start working with the BSU with expert support on model laws. The second area of our work is the monitoring of the political and military situation. Here, too, we cannot do without expert and analytical support, including that of the universities. We monitor and participate in electoral processes and assess their compliance with national legislation. We also analyse the political and military situation. This year there will be exercises of all CSTO Member States in Belarus, considering the country’s CSTO chairmanship, and parliamentarians will participate in them this autumn. The third area is interaction on international platforms. It is particularly important now,” said Sergei Pospelov.
