The CSTO Parliamentary Assembly adopted Recommendations On Improving Legislation to Ensure Protection of Electoral Processes and Sovereignty in the CSTO Member States.
Presenting the draft Recommendations, Hakob Arshakyan, Chairman of the CSTO PA Standing Commission on Political Affairs and International Cooperation and Vice President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, stressed the importance of the document: “Amid increasing threats of external interference in elections and referenda in the CSTO Member States, the urgency of the inter-state coordination in this sphere increases.
The draft Recommendations fill a gap in the current system of model acts of the CIS and the CSTO.”
Hakob Arshakyan noted that the Recommendations define the notion of foreign interference in elections and referenda and electoral sovereignty, contain analysis of international legal foundations of protecting electoral processes and sovereignty and define goals, objectives and principles of such activity and characteristics of foreign interference in elections.
Hakob Arshakyan stressed that the draft Recommendations outline the main recommended measures for the protection of electoral processes and sovereignty, including legislative ones.
