Inter-Parliamentary Union Secretary-General and CSTO PA Executive Secretary discussed interaction of the organizations
On January 19, 2022, Martin Chungong, Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and Sergei Pospelov, Executive Secretary of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, discussed the interaction between the organizations during a video call.
In particular, they discussed the participation of the CSTO PA representatives in the work of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, in particular, in the forthcoming events of the 144th IPU Assembly in March, as well as the possibility of participation of IPU representatives in the meetings of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.
Stating their similar positions on a number of issues, the parties pointed out the similarity of some objectives of the organizations, for instance in countering terrorism and extremism.
As you may recall, during the last session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union on the eve of the COVID pandemic, Umakhan Umakhanov, member of the CSTO PA Standing Commission on Socioeconomic and Legal Issues and member of the State Duma of Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, represented not only the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, but also the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, and official statements adopted by the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly are also mandatorily sent to the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
The parties also decided to strengthen interaction and continue communication through the secretariats of the organizations.
