During his working visit to Armenia, Stanislav Zas, Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, spoke of the rising tension along the perimeter of the CSTO area of responsibility, TASS reports.
“In a meeting with [acting Armenian Foreign Minister] Armen Grigoryan, it was noted that tension is rising along the entire perimeter of the Organization’s area of responsibility,” TASS quotes the CSTO press service. “Speaking about the Caucasus region of collective security, CSTO Secretary General noted that the existing tension on the Armenian–Azerbaijani border negatively affects the security of both Armenia itself and the CSTO area of responsibility as a whole,” the statement reads.
As you may recall, Stanislav Zas, CSTO Secretary General, met with Armen Grigoryan, acting Foreign Minister of the Republic of Armenia, on Monday in Yerevan and held talks with Arshak Karapetyan, Armenian Defence Minister, and Hayk Petrosyan, Security Council Chief of Staff.
A meeting with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is scheduled for August 10.
Talking with the acting Foreign Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Stanislav Zas noted that after the withdrawal of the US and its allies’ troops from Afghanistan the situation there has considerably deteriorated and the country is sinking into chaos, there may be a danger of mass influx of refugees into the neighbouring Tajikistan and its infiltration by international terrorist organizations’ formations.
According to Sputnik – Blizhneye zarubezhye, due to the aggravation of the situation in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, portable anti-aircraft systems Verba, AK-12 assault rifles and modern sniper rifles and flamethrowers were delivered to the 201st base deployed in the Republic of Tajikistan.
