Igor Zavalei: We, as observers, can say that all technical norms for the democratic election were met
Igor Zavalei, member of the Standing Committee on Healthcare, Physical Culture, Family and Youth Policy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, says that during the opening of polling stations observers found that all norms of the election legislation of the Kyrgyz Republic were met, observers from different parties and public associations were present at polling stations.
“When we studied the materials, certainly, the only thing that caused some concern was the complexity of the ballot papers for the people,” said Igor Zavalei.
Mr Zavalei recalled that “just three months ago, new election legislation was passed, this is the first point. And the second point is the fact that this legislation implemented a new system whereby people vote not only for a party, but also for a specific candidate from that party. This, the parliamentarian emphasized, raises concern over whether people might get confused. According to the deputy of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, “There might be quite a lot of spoiled ballots due to this.”
At the same time, Igor Zavalei emphasized, “We, as observers, can say that all technical norms for the democratic election were met.”
