Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan begin border demarcation
Sputnik Tajikistan reports, referring to Rajabboi Ahmadzoda, Chairman of the Sughd Province of the Republic of Tajikistan, that the Tajik-Kyrgyz Intergovernmental Commission on Border Demarcation will begin its work on February 7.
“Our goal is to ensure security and order at the border,” Sputnik quotes Mr Ahmadzoda as saying.
According to the agency, he said that there is close cooperation with the chairman of the Batken Province of the Kyrgyz Republic, and all disputed issues will be resolved within the framework of the existing laws.
As you may recall, according to Asia Plus agency, since May 1, 2021, representatives of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Tajikistan in accordance with the protocol have held eight meetings of the topographic commission to clarify the border and have delineate 81 km of the border. The agency quotes Orif Hojazoda, Chairman of the State Committee of Land Management and Geodesy of Tajikistan, “Since October last year, for certain reasons, the commission’s work has been suspended, but should resume soon.”
According to the agency, as of today, 519 kilometres of the 970-kilometre border with the Kyrgyz Republic have been delineated.
“Going forward, the work will be continuous to resolve all issues related to the delimitation and demarcation of the border,” the agency quotes.
As you may recall, the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Tajikistan are Member States of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic and Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan actively work in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
